it's the long weekend of bedroom swapsies

Greetings all,

So it's the long weekend, how many households got out their cordless drills & fixed something??  Me me me.  Remember how my 3rd daugther's bed broke & Harvey Norman replaced it a couple of weeks later . . . well another couple of weeks later i put the replacement together & finally spread the children into their own 4 bedrooms!!  I wasn't too sure/ capable/ game to pull apart our eldest daughter's fancy heavy French scrolly provincial bed so . . . i left that in her old room & put the new bed in her new room/ other half of my studio.  My husband can swap the beds over to the proper owners when he comes home in a month, our hero & he won't damage anything either.

 With my 3 trusty girls keen to get drilling, it took opening 3 boxes to find all the 'bits'.  Meanwhile, i had questions fired at me like "did Mr Allen invent the Allen key" & "does he know Mr IKEA??"  Oh honestly, thank goodness for Google, as all those questions were answered, or not, i just wasn't interested in the history of the Allen key or flat packed beds today, i'd already put this exact bed together twice, as bunks!!

 As they were bunks, now seperated into two single beds, there are extra side planks & ladders, all begging to be made into something amazing, hmmm . . . i have a vision (day bed, fancy chicken house, plant boxes) it might take a couple of years but they will be repurposed!!

 I decided to put the slats this way, so the black grippy part is close to the mattress/ stress, to see if it holds better??  Thank goodness my children are light or slats might be a disaster.  We've done ensemble bases before, i loathe how you can't vacuum under them.

 Our puppy likes to lie in the hay outside this window & the lunchtime sun pours in, it was quite toasty.  He watched on the whole day, from construction to decorating.

 Then the transplanting of wall decorations from one room to the next.

 The little touches like her Frenchy calendar came too.

 I twisted soft rose fairy lights around the bed head, they look so pretty lit up tonight.

 The pillow case is a Denyse Schmidt circa 2004 & doona cover is Quaker or Shaker style (no idea of the difference, i just like it) from Country Road in 1999, still in great condition.

 This is her real bed - it's soooo heavy & held together with serious bolts.

 Et voila, le chambre is coming together nicely, just ask our puppy.  It's a huge long space & by dinner her desk was set up too, but it's still 1/3 my 'stock room' for bulky materials like batting, tulle & cushion inserts, so as i use them up she'll get 100% ownership & spread out.  When my husband moves back to Canberra late next year, he'll bring his gorgeous King Delta II lounge & our teenager will score it in THIS room, how totally cool will that be for when she has friends over??

So what a weekend - a huge Handmade Market Saturday; a day on the lounge watching movies with the children Sunday, i even dozed off mid afternoon, ahhhhh, recovery . . . then 3 bedroom swapsies today.  Phew, thank goodness long weekends aren't every weekend.  Wishing you all a lovely short week, love Posie

accepting the Stylish Blogger award & happy 400 followers . . .

Greetings all,
I've seen lots of blogs accepting their Stylish Blogger awards, it's really fun to read their '7 things'.  I have been nominated half a dozen times (that is not meant as 'good GOD i'm stylish') but i wasn't speedy enough to accept the first couple a month ago.  In the past week Tammi Little Poppa & Me, Brenda Hoo Are You Lookin' At, Bianca Bigwords & Heidi Bord & Butik have nominated my blog . . . thanks ladies, i wonder if they were just being kind, like i'd been left out??  It's also great timing as a 'next 100 follower' hello like i did when i reached 200 followers, then 300 followers.  Welcome new folk, i'll bring you up to speed with what i'm about . . .   

So here goes my 7 things, i'm going to make them all about style . . .

1. i love style, classic fashion, accessories & try to keep my look interesting not trendy

2. i dress my husband like a catalogue model for fun, nice change from his uniform

3. i am really fussy with the clothes i buy my children & let them decide how to wear them

4. i love sets of things, matching Nigella Lawson mixing bowls, KitchenAid red appliances & endless Tupperware

5. my dream car is a cute Audi A3 in yellow (middle aged lady car which screams no-more-school-runs, i'll be 46 when my last child finishes high school & be at the Audi dealership that afternoon) & i can retire my 8 seater 4WD which screams 'large family + extras'

6. we are planning to build a homestead on a farm near Canberra in a couple of years, we're designing a simple spacious home in blues & neutrals, with verandah around the whole house, pool, green house, barn/ garage & grow all our own vegetables in high garden beds - i'm practising now, my lastest addition . . . pumpkins, onions & carrots

7. my husband only had big sisters so when i met him, he had style beaten into him already, we rarely clash on choosing things for our home, we still have the original furniture from when we married in 1997 (we've updated lounges to King Furniture & obviously added 4 single beds) but we still have the same daggy-pine-young-newly-wed bedroom furniture . . . so we can start a fresh when we move into our OWN home & out of Army housing!!

EDIT: we have collected KitchenAid since we got married, first the blender, then mixer, saucepans & mega stock pot, the toaster 3 years ago & most recently at Christmas, the food processor (which is like using a power tool, scary until you know how!!)  My kitchen ideas are accented with reds with a black & white tiled floor (i've had 4 Army houses with the same grey speckled lino on the kitchen floor, a girl has to dream) & we have cherry red Le Crueset cast iron saucepans, love & collect them too.  As for King Furniture, it's the best, we saved up 10 years for the Jasper, then got a Delta II.

lounge craft & what you can do in your jammies

Well looks like another rainy weekend here in Canberra.  Naturally that means my husband must stand in the rain to watch rugby with mates late into the night.  So what does Posie do when she's snuggled up in new Peter Alexander pyjamas home alone on a Friday night??  Hand stitching, badge making & anything you can comfortably do from the lounge.  I didn't mind sewing my heart out late at night in the studio to meet orders in my 20s, but not anymore.  Built for comfort thanks!!  I'd like to promote the new 'Lounge Craft' movement. 
With a neat badge order for ChildPlay, i thought i'd make the badges on the lounge, with the machines balancing on my husband's giant hardback original 1960's Australia Woman's Weekly cookbook.  What more could you want, great tools, a decent movie, access to amazing fabrics, plus 4 happy children tucked away in bed - exhausted from their school swimming carnival & House Captain duties . . . i went pom pom & balloon mad & was an official time keeper, great job if you can get it, sooo much easier than being a time keeper at the athletics as they are trapped in the pool & stop at the end . . . my girls swam 12 races between them, doing it for the house points.  Very proud mama.

ah, for the love of wireless internet, King Furniture lounges, new jammies & waffle blankets!!

Rather than drive all over the ACT yesterday (we live in the north, school in the south, swimming carnival in the west & you have to be turning 8 in 2010 or older to compete) - our 6y.o. son had a treat, a day off school & went to see Alice in Wonderland with Daddy. He loved it, my husband wasn't so wrapped. There were a couple of moments at the end when the boy climbed onto Daddy's lap but certainly no more scary than a Harry Potter & certainly more colourful & exciting!! 

During the week, after my in-laws left, my husband & i went to see Valentine's Day, great movie, i enjoyed it much more than Love Actually.  Yes, i cried, doing a lot of that this week!!  Actually after the movie i burst into tears in the food court, i'm sure the people at the next table thought 'that guy is breaking up her in a public place so she won't freak out' rather than i'm just so incredibly sad my husband is about to go away again, after 7 weeks away already this year!!  Yes, it's the first week of March, what else is new to an Army wife?? 

Have yourselves cosy weekends if you're chilly or wet outside.  We'll be baking, shopping, farewelling & then you'll see a WHOLE lot more from the Posie lounge with lonely weekends for the next 6-7 months.  Love Posie
