snap it 'red'

Greetings all,

Red is by far my favourite accessory colour for decor, kitchen appliances & fashion.  Scrolling through photos for red inspiration rather than take a new photograph, i found these beauties from family travels . . . 

a Murano glass chandelier in Venice - very difficult to photograph the glass in stores as most have 'no photo' signs, so i took shots on the move, much to my husband's horror.  They make red glass with gold, which explains why red glass is the most pricey . . . 

 yay, Disneyland, better yet, the Disneyland Hotel in Hong Kong where Minnie Mouse visits your table while you dine, it was the BEST family holiday of all time . . . 

 living in Canberra is fantastically close to the ski fields, so we throw the children on toboggans & push them down hills at Mt Selwyn for a wild time (our children have no fear, they even build jumps.) FYI best thigh work out EVER going back up the hills . . .   

 one year we had friends getting married in Sydney & we were about to move from Darwin, so i sent my husband & preschool aged son on a trip together while i packed up the house (they went for a week, the girls were in school, it was 6 hours of silent packing each day, ahhh.)  Here is our boy on a ferry from Taronga Zoo across Sydney Harbour with his much loved fearsome tiger 'Bella' . . . 

 Oh look at this, our now enormous German Shepherd was once a little puppy with a sweet red collar.  I nursed him on my lap the whole way home from the breeders, 300km away.  Yes, he grew into those massive paws & is the most loyal & loving family dog.

things i'm loving . . . 'home life'

So many totally-into-&-loving-things this week with PaisleyJade, starting off a fabulous Beef Ragu recipe from my children's cookbook My Grandma's Kitchen by Louise Fulton Keats (yes, as in the offspring of Margaret Fulton, cooking master) & yes, i cook from children's cookbooks as they are my level of culinary adventure & children LOVE every meal, win win.  

 My new Mac desk top arrived, after i killed my 5th laptop computer - my husband suggested i might be more reliable with a desk top & swears by Mac, so yes folks, i'm never going back!!  I love the multi view - i reckon i could launch a space ship from here!!

 I picked up a copy of the May Home Beautiful with Simone from Beach Vintage blog & Just Plain Gorgeous shop & Fabric Traders on line . . . to read about her fresh & fabulous beachside home.  I studied every image, if i was ever a guest, i'd know where the bathroom was (it was a huge feature) congratulations Simone & family!!

 The children are being thoroughly entertained by the chickens, i love finding shots like this when i download the camera.  This is apparently what alien chickens look like!!

 The chicken coop arrived.  Seeing they are only 10 days old & it's getting to 0C at night here, they are very much indoor-baby-chicks, so i constructed the coop in the lounge room (nothing a vacuum can't fix) & it's basically like having the world's most bizarre lamp!!

 Our German Shepherd is containing himself, he chases birds all day in the garden, so to have chickens is a challenge for him.  He's really being VERY good.  Can you feel the energy in this picture - like he is absolutely ready to pounce at any second.

 It was going to happen sooner than later, the chickens now have a coop & disco!!

 Is it just me or are they lying in the shape of a love heart??  Please be hens!!  Looks like we'll be getting new baby chicks from the next batch of incubated magic in a few weeks, so excited!!

Sorry i'm still a little over the top with chicken fever but they really are just so much fun.  School resumes on Monday so it will be me & the chickens.  My sister recommended ducks, similar to raise but more friendly as they follow you around, like pets.  I agree, they're on the list!!  Love Posie

come walk with me & my action puppy

 Greetings all,

One my favourite things to do each day is take my action puppy for a walk, run, jump, climb, sniff & gallop. 

Meet Khan, our much loved 3.5 year old German Shepherd.

Sometimes it's just a trip around the block . . . 

 other times a long bush walk . . .

 we look right & we look left . . .
 

 then cross over to the reserve to spy on kangaroos.

 I keep him on a lead as there are rabbit baits & he's prone to chase birds & butterflies!!

 Yesterday we took Khan for a big walk around Lake Burley Griffen . . .

 he is so good with other dogs (as in the non lunging/ barking/ attacking kind of good) & he's a hit with mums with prams!!  So many families say they don't have a dog, so we make time to stop & let their children have a good look at our huge puppy.  I have always taught our children to NEVER pat anyone else's dog, you just don't know them & i never encourage small children to pat our Khan, it's just not worth the risk, anything can frighten a child or startle a dog to react unpredictably, including sticky fingers which might get chomped on. 

 Big dogs don't always get a good wrap (MANY for good viscious reasons) but our children have not had a minute of their lives without a German Shepherd in it, we have had beautiful experiences, raised them with love & control.  We never put our children in danger (they were never left alone or unsupervised) but we do put a lot of trust in our puppy.  When our children get heavy enough, they can start taking him to the park with them, right now he can pull all of them over, he's just too strong. 

Then he's back home on his heated sheepskin bed (inside at night in Winter) after a satisfying day out.  Best way to exercise, fresh air, happy quiet puppy at home & friendly way to meet your neighbours.  Love Posie

today: nothing escaped the chop!!

Greetings all,
Well in my last-day-before-school-resumes-Edward-Scissorhands mania, nothing around the house, garden or family was safe . . . i made nice with my lawn mower (bless this mower, it cold starts first time, without ripping out my chest).  Off i went, mowing in wonky lines across the nature strip, front garden & back garden with a neat end result. 
Next stop . . . that German Shepherd needs a good wash & massage, so he was tied to the clothes line (he loves the massage, not so hot on the cold water part) & yes, we all finished up saturated from his shakes & well, poorly managed hose skills from my twins!!  It was Khan's 2nd birthday this week, he's fully grown now, no scale required, he's MASSIVE. 
Then between grocery shopping & swimming, my son got his short back & sides hair cut at the military barber shop.  He loves it in there, the men, the Army photos, the toy tanks, the swearing (thankfully in heavy Irish accents he can not understand) it's his little taste of man land.  

We're all set to return to school, shoes/ uniforms/ lunches & i have all the prizes from my blog giveaway done . . . I'll reveal the 5 winners tomorrow.  Good luck & to those of you who like me, seem to have the very last children in the country still on school holidays, enjoy tomorrow!!  I've already managed to get myself invited to a meeting (canteen), a morning tea with a lovely mummy, then lunch with my best Army wife gal pal!!  Yippee!!  Just as i plan to get back to work in the studio child free . . . i'm happily distracted with adult company.  Yes please.  I'm so lucky to have really great friends.  Love Posie
