Australia Day . . . nom nom nom

Greetings all & happy Australia Day!!
We did the typical Australian things today . . . slipped on thongs & went swimming, bike riding & ate up a storm.
One of my favourite things about Australia & Australians . . . is our sense of humour, even at the guarded entrances on military bases!!
Our menu was a rolling brunch of multicultural delights - French croissants, Italian sausages, Greek salad, Kiwi Fruit & Canadian bacon (only joking, Darling Downs bacon!!)
Here's a crowd pleaser for brunch, i've never made French toast before, so i gave it a go today - savoury sandwich style!!
Basic French toast . . . gently whisk eggs (1 egg per 2 slices of multigrain bread) coat bread generously & fry, then pop in the oven to keep warm; fry ham, bacon & eggs (both sides).
Composition . . . layer toast, ham, bacon, egg + fancy cheese if you have some, i didn't think that far ahead, gruyere would be perfection & i'd add sprouts or herbs too.  Slice into fingers!!
Serve with a Finnish napkin, da dah!!  How Australian was that??  Love Posie

Oh posie, French toast is best with some milk added to the eggs too, and some herbs of your choice and then coated with home made tomato relish. Yummmmmmm.

My dad served this up nearly weekly for most of my childhood.

Um Posie, my mouth is literally watering! Drool everywhere :o/ What a delightful feast for your Aussie Day, thank you so much for sharing that :o)
Love the 'bloody hot', that is GOLD! I use bloody quite a bit. I don't see it as a swear word really, but every time I say it, I think to myself "you're just such an Aussie occa!" Happy Australia Day to you and your lovely fam Posie xoxo

Hmm yummo! Love the crispness you get with the BBQing of eggs. Hope you had a nice day and I thought of you as we celebrated what a lucky country we are.x

What a scrummy way to celebrate! I love the way the English call French Toast 'eggy bread' trust the English to make something so sophisticated sound so ordinary! You have given it a new identity and an Aussie twist! X

Your blog always makes me feel 5 again.... I mean that in a good way.. I'd sort of forgotten about the entrance ritual onto bases... It always made me feel special when someone saluted my dad... Funny how kids see things... Your feast looks awesome... We had French toast too yummo xxxx

I love all things cultural that I pick up in the blogworld. It is so wonderful to read all these stories about you spent Australia day. To be honest, I didn't quite know what to make of those references to Canadian, French, etc. but I can sense that it should really, really be witty for those in the know. Sending you my love, Tey@Supermac'sThoughtBalloons xx
