Greetings all,
Thinking of starting up a new meme for all who wish to join in, called Social Commentary Sunday. My friends know i am loud with strong opinions, so why not make that into a weekly post?? Maybe just 'what's on your mind' or i could throw out a theme/ topic/ idea on Saturdays for us to post about on Sundays. Want to join in, let me know!!
This weekend has seen me sewing up a storm, i have to constantly replace stock at the Shop & mass produce for markets, but after a heavy & emotional week, i've turned to quilting. Love of colour, simple design & sew on autopilot. So . . . Bad Boys might be a strange title subject for this housewife, mummy & patchwork quilter to pick or relate to?? Read on . . .

While i sew, i have DVDs on in my studio to save me from day time or weekend sport, sport or sport on television. The gorgeous SuperNatural brothers have been entertaining me. Granted i'm focused on sewing with only one eye on these hunky boys, but there is something about them which reminds me of my choice of husband - handsome, broody & a bit of mystery - the bad boy action man?? I'd like to say Bear Grylls types, parachute jumping, rock climbing & in their spare time, fighting demons.
As i was watching Sunrise in my studio, the ads for Home&Away kept rolling . . . some 'bad boys' have moved to Summer Bay. Typical story, the good girl has fallen for one (you can piece the story together from the ads of course) & da dah, the bad boy turns out to be quite nice, gentle with an easy smile that melts you & makes you weak at the knees.
Last time i watched Home&Away my cousin Alyssa was on, some story line of her tricking her on screen boyfriend that he was the father of her baby (bad girl, classy role Lyss). The boyfriend = Chris Hemsworth (as in Miley Cyrus's boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's brother - OMG, i have a connection to Hannah Montanna, shame my children wouldn't care, OMG, i have a connection to Billy-Ray Cyrus, bit of sick just came up in my mouth) anyway . . . as i name drop & digress (Alyssa here with pals Alex & Gyton) . . .
Alyssa is my inside guru into Hollywood bad boys who are REALLY nice in real life. If you've seen Ryan Kwanten in TruBlood (FYI while i was looking for a photo of him, there is a Jason Stackhouse workout) you'd never believe it, he's so bad on screen. Sure he's totally hot but to me, Ryan still has that baby face from his Home&Away days, either that or i'm just 36 & acting my age??!! The surfy angle reminds me of my husband in his early 20s, i know, as if i could resist.
Ah, yes, Sam Worthington, hello ladies, he reminds me the most of my husband - very broody & has played a few military roles. I did let out a yelp when Alyssa (who never name drops, i drag it out of her) said that she had dinner with Sam just after Avatar & he's still the same nice guy. That broody face & work boot footwear just sucks me in. You can add to my list the likes of Daniel Craig (James Bond), David Boreanez (Angel, Bones), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) & Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) who i find mesmerising, their eyes & fact they say so little - wow, i often say to my husband "what are you saving your words for??" as he just doesn't talk unless he has something really important to say. Quite confronting to me, the blabber-oner. I had to get used to comfortable silence very early on in our relationship. I was never looking to 'save' a guy or mother one, i didn't want a damaged one with baggage either. My husband had just a dash of conflict in his eyes.
In an effort to tie all this together with the gratuitous images of hunky guys . . . what really is a bad boy, on screen or in real life?? Is it a look, an attitude, the mystery, what's not said?? Sure there are some scary genuine bad boys out there, who beat their wives & deal drugs, horrible, yuck. I'm talking about the ones you can't take your eyes off, they are captivating, mysterious & SO different from your life, they're an escape?? That is what i felt when i first laid eyes on my husband.
He was loud, popular & from a very different world - the Inner West of Sydney (it was a bit rough in the mid 90s, now it's gentrified) with working class mates who drank, they were soldiers. I was a strong minded teenager, a good girl from the safe & quiet North Shore of Sydney, studying at university, focused with goals, but attracted to him like an intense magnet. We started dating immediately (ok, imagine me cute, blonde, slim, fun, smart - i was a catch & a mystery to him too). I soon realised this apparent bad boy was completely adorable - he would drive me home & walk me to my door; called my father 'sir' when they first met; always helping cook with my mother; always phoned (this was before mobiles, SMS & email); never let me pay for anything; held doors open/ chairs out/ gave me his jacket if i was cold . . . OMG, he was the nicest bad boy ever!! Um, we talked baby names on our first date & i was actually thinking he was going to be a fling as i was fresh out of my first serious relationship.
Probably why, 17 years later i am still madly in love with him!! He is still broody & mysterious, he has been to places & seen things in war i could never imagine. He's protective, responsible & sensible, i feel safe. I would never say i tamed him, i was just the right challenge & made the ideal military wife for him. I still say to him, "if you never asked me out, i'd still have a crush on you & wonder about you". Oh imagine if i didn't marry him, but someone boring & obvious, i'd still be thinking of my teen crush. I have never doubted our relationship, perhaps because my parents didn't either - ok, after dating him for a few months they were off on a big trip around Australia . . . they asked him to move in (my parents were VERY conservative, this was jaw dropping stuff) to look after me & get this - put money into his bank account to buy groceries every week!! Can you imagine in a million years doing that for your teen daugther's boyfriend??!! I'll just state here & now, we won't be doing that for ANY of our children, what were my parents thinking?? He he he, they did expect us to sleep in different rooms, ha ha ha.

Right now, this is as wild as my bad boy experience gets - this cute little heart breaker is the son of Rosalind from Grace Designs who popped over on Friday, she makes gorgeous babies too!!

I used to think that Billy Ray Cyrus looked like a murderer. Maybe not these days but certainly in the achy breaky ones!! Maybe it was the mullet!... lol
Lol at Billy Ray Cyrus! Why his worse song was the one that got all the air play is a mystery...
I married a Bear Grylls type, except for the eating live, uncooked animal thing... I would go bush with Bear in a heartbeat!
I like strong, capable and handy men but that Bear dude really gives me the pip. I don't think for a minute he sleeps out in the cold on a rock shelf - I bet there's a nice tent pitched nearby. Eating animals like he does is just for reaction. Ugh!
My goodness, what trusting parents you had! He obviously REALLY won them over! It's a great story :)
The lure of the 'bad boy'! I definitely love to see them on TV and as a teenager, I was completely into them. I married someone who is more like a boy scout than a bad boy!
I love that you and your soldier are still so enamoured. It is a wonderful thing for you and an awesome case of role modelling for your children :)
I married the complete opposite of a bad boy and haven't regretted it for a minute... mind you, he's bad when it counts!!! x
I always wanted the Sean Connery type a real mans man thank God I was blessed with a sweetheart...
and I'm glad he's a handy man.
I loved just Martha's comment!
I enjoy looking at the bad boys but am glad I married a good one. Mind you, that Sam Worthington I just love his voice.
Ooooh I love a Bad Boy :) dated quite a few in my time! I like my men dark, handsome and a bit rough around the edges! I like a real man's man, none of these girly looking merrier Hals for me thanks!
I'm with you on David Boreanaz. Also Sean Connery! And he's not dark, which breaks the rule for me, but Alexander Skarsgaard (Eric in true blood). Mmmmmmmmmmm. George Clooney, Christian Bale, Colin Firth as Mr Darcy, I am sure there are more. Although right now the baddest boys in my life are my two Small Dark and Handsomes!
Bad boys are great on the screen (still have a soft spot for George Clooney) - but not really my cup of tea in real life. I like my grown up boy :-)
xxxCate
I went out with a couple of bad boys and they were well, bad.
I married Mr Nice Guy. My Mum, Nannas and Aunties all adored him from minute 1. He's still lovely 20 years later!
He's dark(ish) and has a few scars and looks lovely with a bit of stubble, but he's an absolute sweetheart.
I'd like to thank you for the visual feast for the eyes in this post Posie ;) YUMMO!
Well you know my husband:) Love at first sight - hehe maybe that is why I almost killed him in the car park.
Still love him to pieces. Where would we be without them - well we would not be army wifes, we would never have meet and life would be oh so dull and boring:)
Have a great week - going to try and get some order back to my house and get some crafting done so I can blog a little more than SIT - oh but I do have a model shot of the dress to pop up tomorrow:)
You're gorgeous hon, I loved that post!! x
Hello Bad Boys! A lifetime ago I dated a surfer bad boy who rocked my world! These days he's probably fat and balding, but at least I have the memories! :) Thanks for sharing a little more about your love story. xx
You love that husband to death! We can tell! He can tell! I married a bad boy too! He had been around the block a time or too, and had the unsettled eyes, but he has settled and he is the best husband and a most fabulous masculine active father to our two gorgeous children. I couldn't have married somebody who just sat inside and read books. My husband is out and about and turns his hand to most things.
Hilarious post - it was a good thing you had nabbed that husband of yours first, I still have fond memories of him lifting me over a fence in our army reserve days - so manly, so gentlemanly - effortless old school ruggedness. Ha ha. Now my lovely man is not what I would call rugged, but he certainly has that badness around the edges mixed with a bit of elegance. And how did you miss Liam Neeson in that list of manly bad boys??
Ok merrier hals should have been metrosexuals! Bloody auto correct!!
I'm more into the 'quirky' type - David Tenant would be at the top of my list and when I think about it, my husband is a bit similar!
h ah ah a ha ha ha ha ha
you make me laugh!
from Billy Ray to yummy Sam Worthington!
mines the silent type aswell..I am a blabber, not as much in recent years I think, ohh, who am I kidding!
he's my Johnny Depp/Orlando Bloom lookalike.
happy weekend to you, I love all your handmade adventures, you must be exhausted though ♥
