Summer is bush fire season in Australia

Greetings all,
Skies over northern Canberra tonight, smokey from grass fires & we've heard sirens all day.  I know many of our wonderful (& handsome) firemen are off into NSW fighting fires as they are at the mercy of catastrophic conditions - where things here are under control.
It's still pretty steamy here tonight, i think i'll flick the air conditioning on low to sleep soundly.  Such a luxury - i know many people are without electricity or running water.  Thinking of them all, those still in danger & the heartbroken who have lost everything.  Stay safe Australia, love Posie

So many fires around NSW. I have a son living on the Yass/Wee Jasper Rd and they are on alert with a fire over the river. My sister is between Weethalle and west Wyalong and they have had to evacuate (lots of stubble and bush out there) and the fire is getting closer to their house (under 2km); and my second son has a station between Cobar and Roto and there is a fire about 3 stations away from his (under control all day thankfully).
Yes we are so very fortunate to be able to have our air conditioners on and to feel safe. And where would we be without the RFS and the volunteers that step up as soon as a call goes out. It is times like this that the 'aussie' really shines through!!

It was HOT here last night, with the haze of smoke in the air. Have my fingers crossed that brushfire season doesn't last too long.

Thats the worst thing about our hot summers - the bushfires. They have also flown over a few firefighters from Perth to help you guys out too. Stay safe x

The bushfires scare me. Praying that yesterday's lull in the weather has helped get things back under control xx

keep yourself safe also, especially this weekend as it's going to be another scorcher.

It's such a worrying time isn't it? My best friend lost her entire house and all their belongings in the Western Australian fires two years ago. it was really tough. something that you never really get over - but you can move on. our career and volunteer firefighters are amazing. thank God for them!
Have a great weekend Jen!

I've been petrified for days for my friends, many down Wagga way, and other parts of the state on alert. That is one part of country living that definitely is not a joy.
