our creative space . . . 'Spring cleaning & sticky hook magic'

Greetings all,
In my huge effort to Spring clean the house, declutter & get-things-up-off-the-floor . . . i've been busy with those sticky hooks.  We live in a rented Army house, we have to leave the walls unmarked (ha, our children would have to wear straight-jackets not to mark the walls) but those 3M hooks allow us to hang things, then remove them without a trace.  I wish this was a sponsored post, they're expensive but so good!!
Our study nook consists of 2 cheap IKEA desks; Flash Trash old trunks as seats; cheap finds from TYPO;  bird cage from The Reject Shop; Provincial lanterns; & cork board decorated with sports ribbons.  Everything but a power point, which would be handy, so we have a fantastic tripping hazard of an extension lead across the hallway.  Perfect - child trips & drags laptop off desk, both crash onto tiles together!!
For authenticity - school holiday child in jammies at midday with unbrushed hair.  Child: stylist's own.
I found this TOWELS hook contraption at Bed, Bath & Table, $25.  Stick up a couple of hooks, hang rack & da dah, 4 towels for 4 children & they have each discovered the ability to hang their towels, all week.  Their arms aren't painted on after all.  It's meant to sit on screws/ bolt to the wall, but the hooks are holding nicely.  One day i'll hammer & bolt as many things i want to MY walls.
For more crafty creative spaces (not just peeling & glueing hooks to walls) visit Our Creative Space today, i'm just offering a public service of how to get things up off the ground to free up more time to be creative!!  Love Posie

Great little space love the homework letters...TIP- Use some electrical tape to tape down those cables until you get a sparky around....

It's been 4 years & we're not putting in a power point to a rental property. We will keep plugging in the extension lead, it's only for a couple of hours a day. Love Posie

I'm a huge fan of the 3M hooks myself! Love the towel hook idea too :)
Hope child#3 is pining a little less for her daddy today...

A creative solution to a rental property problem. Love that towel hanger too.

After puttying numerous holes while renovating our new house (which is an ex rental) I can tell you, not everyone adhears to the rules!

:)

If you damage an Army rental, your husband's commanding officer knows about it, that's a pretty decent threat. There are strict rules on how many hooks per wall etc, needless to say we have few pieces of art hanging. Love Posie

I love those hooks too - I am about to hang some artwork in Grace's room and was planning on using those so that if I want to change things around down the track or add to the display, hubby won't have a fit :)

I once had someone tell me I could have shares in 3M hooks... We have been renting for the past 3.5 years and those hooks are the one thing that help retain (a little) of my sanity.
Love your little study nook. We have just created a little sewing/homeschooling nook and for some reason there are two double outlets in this one tiny corner? of course the rest of the house has hardly any!!!

When we were renting our tv was on the opposite side of the room from the aerial socket - 3M do cable hooks which we ran up the wall, across the roof and back down to hold the aerial cable. Worked a treat - could be a fix for your pesky extension cord.

Hi - just thought I would pop in say we have always put up a number of hooks in our DHA rentals and have never had any problems - we use the hooks secured by nails and you can just put a bit of putty in when you go if you need to:)

Am just so glad to know their arms are not painted on - or their smiles.
My hubby is too scared to make holes in our new walls - hopefully soon!!!!

You'd think that with all of the stress army families have to go through with long deployments etc a few attached hooks in the walls would be the least of the department's worries!

I love the towel hook. The kids' bathroom is so small in this house and they have to stand on the side of the bath to use the hook behind the door (the only available wall space in there) so they think it's all to hard and the towels end up on the floor - gggrrr!

You're right those hooks are great ...I am lucky and can drill as many holes as my husband is happy to indulge me in.

Yes it's a real pain when you can't damage your walls and I mean that, it's difficult to really make your mark when you're limited by what you can hang. Had to laugh at your trip hazard scenario... you have a real OH & S issue going on Posie ;o)
I think the little study space looks lovely though. Bird cage is gorgeous! xo
