things i'm loving . . . 'breakfast in bed'

Greetings all,
Things i'm loving with Paisley Jade this week was a no brainer - yesterday was a pupil free day & kapow, my gorgeous twinnies brought be breakfast in bed.  Surprise!!  Sliced up fruit salad, icey water + a fried egg on a pancake, presented on a Nigella platter no less.  This is what i woke up to, breakfast in bed & no school run, bliss!!
Yes, my independent almost 10 year olds can make pancakes, fry eggs, pop ice out of trays & slice up fruit - we've taught them how to use knives/ stove properly & how to be careful, they're not silly & check out what happens when you let your children shine - impromptu cooked breakfast in bed!!
No, the high schooler was not supervising, as if she'd be awake unnecessarily.  In short, child labour is welcome in our home . . .
. . . we do provide them with quality stylish aprons to cook with!!

So an A+ to my super star girls who so lovingly treated me like a Queen yesterday morning.
Sorry about shodding images, i think the camera is a bit dodgy, it was dropped in the school holidays, no worries, it's only our 4th little Nikon Coolpix to meet with an accident.  I can hear my husband screaming all the way from Brisbane "4 bloody cameras Jennie", his sister dropped it, ha, not me for once!!  Love Posie

Oh lucky you, you do deserve it! I best get to training my boys, I know they'd love to learn, it's me & my impatience holding them back...

Oh you are a lucky lady, breakfast in bed, looks yummy too!

It's a rare day for my kids to get up out of bed before me and even if they did I think if I heard them banging around in the kitchen I would be forced to get out of bed to see what they were up to! xx

Gotta love brekky in bed! you certainly have your kids well trained. My son's only six, but I can't wait till he can make me a nice cup of coffee... a couple more years yet.xSam

Wow! They really spoilt you didn't they! Lovely that they are so independent. My 9 and a half year old boy isn't close to doing those things, but a). He's a boy, b). he's a first born, c). he's a boy :)
Maybe I should teach him how to make pancakes :)

Miss Posie

a massive compliment to you for your extraordinary parenting and upbringing of your children.

I was a very sensible independent little girl and to see other children do what I used to do makes me smile even more.

have a lovely day ahead

Oh, how lovely of them.

I think sharp knives are key - much more damaged can be done trying to cut with a blunt knife:)

I remember when I was about 8 my Mum was going out to a play with my aunt. My aunt was astounded as my Mum left instructions for me to make my own salad (obviously my Dad was home) - my aunt's kids were at least 6-8 years older than me and she had left their whole dinner ready

I'm just looking at that egg again, it was the first they had ever fried themselves, thus egg yolk everywhere but how clever!! Yes i like eggs on pancakes!!
They did use a shake-a-pancake mix, however, yesterday, they googled waffles & used the KitchenAid to make waffle mix (i helped with the egg seperating & whipping egg whites with the castor sugar) but next they'll be whipping up pavolvas i am sure.
Thanks for the comments, they were very proud of themselves & made breakfast for their big sister & little brother too, such a delight these two. Love Posie

Oh Posie, can you send your twinnies up to train my boys when the time comes?? They are just the most delightful little girls :o) Your breakfast in bed looked delish! Oh I know how you feel about the camera... I think that is how my recent little Canon workhorse met an untimely end... my one year old grabbed it and did what he does best, threw it... it just wasn't the same after that, then completely gave up :o/
Haven't popped by for a couple of days, but must say I am LOVING your new format here, looks fab :o)

You know I just realised... because I'm a dope... that I don't think you've changed anything at all with your format... it's just my work computer displays things a bit differently to my home one. Sorry Posie, my mistake xo

Gotta love kids who use their skills to treat you to brekky in bed :)...and mighty good it looks too.
We taught our children their way around a kitchen from a very young age..from the time they could stand they would pull up a chair beside me. The older three regularly cook dinner and our 9yo is not far off.
Yay to kids in the kitchen I say :)

Have a great weekend.

Oh I would definately lap it up! How lovely! My miss 11 cooks with gas too! I am very proud of her as well, while my husband was away recently she made me a cuppa in bed and had a bacon and egg toasted sandwich ready for me when I came downstairs! You are so right about teaching them, then trusting them, and letting them shine! It is so amazing what happens! They will be more confident and capable adults!
Enjoy your gorgeous family this weekend! X

What fabulous kidlets.

My oldest is eight but letting him have access to sharp implements and fire hazards still brings me out in a cold sweat. We're easing him in with the toaster...

Awww, aren't the sweet. I know I have said it before. But your kids are so great. Must be that fab mother they have.

P.S I am totally replying to your email tonight... if I don't fall asleep before the kids that is.

Pancakes in bed? Mmmmm...maybe I should rethink the whole kiddy thing? Or just borrow Cooper more often?

Lucky you...and why not?

Such talented girls. See, Lucky you dont take the Nikon everywhere:) We bought a Lumix at Christmas time - it can be dropped, stood on and go for a swim to 10 mts. I love it and am not affraid if the kids want to use it.

How come I am the only one that thinks eggs on pancakes is a little bizarre

Good for you you have obviously taught them more than just cooking skills...how to look after a tired and sick mama..Hope you are feeling well soon.
