social commentary Sunday . . . 'do you share your hopes & dreams, outloud??'

Greetings all,
As you can probably tell, i don't suffer from lack of confidence, ditto for my children.  Like them, i was filled with hopes & dreams, the world was my oyster, perhaps more than our fair share of compliments, but . . . why not??  I was chatting away to some unsuspecting listener about our plans to buy 100 acres, build a homestead & start a farm . . . she said "but what if it doesn't happen??  Oh, gosh, i'm pretty focused on it actually happening, but if it doesn't, well, what is the harm in dreaming for it anyway, or telling the world about my hopes & dreams??  It's my life anyway, is it going to affect yours??
My world view is pretty much 'bigger picture', i have a bunch of children to raise, elderly parents & a husband who goes to war, my farm dream is nice, it's in a safe happy place in my heart & it's a beautifully positive family experience we really want.  Not to mention budget/ affordable & clean/ healthy/ simple living.  What a lovely place to retire to.
Do you ever take your children somewhere that feels SO RIGHT??  We know this is the best decision - our children never stop running, they want farm animals & lots of space.  We pulled up at the farm block we're interested in & they all leapt out of the car & started running up the hill, like it was so familiar & natural.
These photos are all of the one & only property we looked at, 100 acres & a bonus, huge hill - i wasn't sure if my husband wanted flat or hilly, he loves the hill!!  There is a fantastic flat spot for a house, pool & pony, yay!!
Huge windbreak & 2 dams, this property is broken into 2 paddocks.
I really love this part of Australia, i really want to live out here.
When my husband said he saw turtles, i never thought we'd get the children back in the car!!
We plan on going 100% solar but with power there, we could put electricity back into the grid.  I keep saying "we're not greenies, or environ-mental, it's simple budget sense".
Each time we stopped (every few hundred metres) the children would hop back in the car with all their enthusiastic plans for tree houses, animals & quad bikes.
It was so windy, i did a wonderful impersonation of the Queen with my scarf over my head to protect my ears & wave to my subjects.
I think we'll be putting in some wind power too??
Whether we buy this block, or another in the 'hood, we like this area & it feels so right.  Thing is, with another 18 months of my husband living interstate & overseas, we're just not ready to buy right now.
It's fun dreaming, planning & i'm pretty sure we'll put our money where our mouth is & buy a farm in the next 6-12 months so i can start planting, getting the homestead drafted & all those fun approvals for the barn & pool through council.
As for the car trip - we let them come with jammie tops on under their overcoats, with jeans & gum boots over the top.  Look at my middle daughter's hair all blown apart!!  A few toys, fruit & books made for a calm journey.  We will need a more economical car though, it will be a whole lot of driving (well twice as far as i'm doing now).
So, do you dare to share??  Do you keep things to yourself until they are absolutely, positively, penned in, definitely, set in stone going to happen??  I don't exactly wear my heart on my sleeve, but i am so surprised when things don't go right, but i have no shame in hoping & dreaming outloud!!  Love Posie

I agree, there is no shame at all in dreaming, big or small. I dream a lot and do share with people. You have got to have something nice to think about as you drift off to sleep I think.
Ps looking forward to seeing your farm dreams grow :)

I think dreams and plans are what keeps us going through day to day life - they give us something to look forward to and to strive towards. Looks like a great area you explored.

Great post Jennie!

We're dreaming big at the moment - his job has just gone down the pan. And we can't claim for anything as we haven't been here long enough. So we're not sure where we'll end up - where ever he gets another job! (telecoms)

I think the be positive - whatever situation you are in is good. And surround yourself with positive people too!

Love your plans - I know you'll do it!XXJ

Dreams keep us going. Without dreams, life would be pretty boring (and a little bit sad).

I am not really much of a sharer generally - I do still have some dreams, but I am also conscious of the dreams I had that have already come true. (And I love the two "damns"...)

i love this dream of yours. how exciting for your whole family!!!

i think putting positive thoughts out there and firmly envisioning what you want and expect puts things in motion that otherwise wouldn't occur. so more power to you, dear!

Loved this post! I love to dream but most often keep these dreams to myself or share with my hubby - my sister has the tag of 'the dreamer' so I prefer to keep mine to myself in case they never materialise. Currently it's the dream to holiday in Europe....!

Feeling a bit dumb dumb about the spelling of dams!! I was so careful to name the images as 'dam' then go & publish damns, der, of course Sindy picked it up, 'tis why she's my best friend!! Love Posie

I love the dream. Part of our family dream has come true. We have bought our small acreage in the Sunshine coast hinterland and built a shed as a weekender. We visit regularly and dream & plan our retirement home. If we don't have dreams & hopes for our lives it all gets a bit boring doesn't it!

Looks just like home doesn't it? I say it is a pretty nice neighbourhood, especially if turtles live next door!!

Dreaming is for dreamers (and I mean that in a good way). Great things come from dreams and why wouldn't you share them? Sounds like a strange thing for someone to say (what if it doesn't happen?). Very strange!

The landscape looks wonderful - all big skies and yellow grass - perfect for kids. Is it ACT?

I dream of a little shack by the sea...

oh Jennie, good on your for getting your dreams out there. i know that with your dreams and passion for them they will certainly come true. as for me, I'm a bit of both....some dreams i shout out to the world, others i muddle over in my head till i gain the confidence to voice them!!! Love all those scrummy pictures of your possible farm to be!!! Make sure you build a huge craft wing or guest studio room for the vistors (ie, ME!)

Dream big my friend. I am looking forward to this dream becoming a reality and visiting you in your envio - mental home:)
It is about time the 6 of you had your own dreams then being told one thing and another happening. You know we have dreams too (just need a few of those deployments to pull it all together:)

Dream on - that's what makes the world go round. I shared your excitement as I read your post and eyed off the gorgeous images. We are about to go to the other extreme - moving back to Sydney after many years in Brisbane and downsizing to a two bedroom unit. Not looking forward to the next couple of weeks of packing though!

Oh Posie that is so exciting! I'm a BIG dreamer and I love making them come true. I have had so many things happen this year because I had the courage to say I wanted to do something and then work towards making it happen. Good on you for living yours xxx

I love dreaming and especially out loud!! Not to everyone tho, but gee it helps to inspire and look at the bigger picture. My children now dream with us and sometimes we go hog wild with what we'd like to do, that's part of the fun is growing your imagination and also making the steps for it to become reality. If we didn't have dreams we wouldn't have hope, aspirations call it what you want. I love your dream Posie and love your so close to acquiring your 'dream' journey!!
