what exactly is 'no appointment necessary' hmmmm??

Greetings all,
Not normally one to be huffy . . . but i went to the hairdresser today, enough said - i hear you, HUFFY!!  I use the no-appointments-necessary-kind of hairdresser.  I have thick straight colour free hair, it's hard to cut badly.  My tactic over a decade of stay at home mothering has been to arrive as they open, so i get the first haircut de jour, in & out, very handy if/ when i had up to 4 children with me.
Today my husband took the children to school & had a dentist appointment, perfect, i'll get a haircut while he's out.  So i rocked up at 10a.m. & i was swiftly informed that i could have my hair cut at 11.15a.m.  I said "oh, i thought you opened at 10 & i'd be first".  Ok, upon looking around, the salon was full, my bad, but . . . the receptionist did the over dramatic head swivel to emphasis e v e r y  c h a i r & e v e r y  h a i r d r e s s e r was busy & then eye balled me with a breathy statement of "we open at 9, always have".  Lies i tell you!!
So a combination of my not keeping up to date with opening hours, maybe it's Christmas trading, who knows, who cares, i went back at 11a.m. for my 11.15a.m. no appointment necessary APPOINTMENT nonetheless.  You guessed it, she hadn't written my name down (emphasised by her huffing "Jennie, no, no, no, no Jennie on the list") so i was made to feel like i was abusing the no-appointment-necessary slogan plastered all over the salon window, by indeed, not making an appointment.  I remained pleasant, i mean, they were about to take scissors to my hair!!
In between all of this, my husband had arrived home from the dentist & was surprised to find me back home so early too.  He very nervously asked "did you get your haircut, looks nice??" as he remembered to 'notice'.  Then added the helpful comment of "i don't know why you go to that hairdresser" but i simply don't care enough about my hair to pay $200 & thanks to the Army, we move state/ territory every 2 years so i can't form an attachment/ bond/ dependency with a hairdresser as it will only end in tears when we leave.
So i woke up looking like this . . . quite literally, how tired do i look??!!
I'm just about to hop in the shower & i look like this, quite literally, wrapped in a towel!!

I know, i'm as suprised as you are how unphotogenic i am!!
But wait, there's more . . . i said to Dany - the gay Korean hairdresser assigned to me, to do something short & fun.  He removed my glasses (why do i always forget to wear contact lenses in these situations, i can't see anything without my glasses??) & i said "sure, try a fringe" . . . at first i thought i might be channelling Joan Holloway from Mad Men, then as Dany played around teasing my hair & flattening it, it went a little more like Peggy Olsen . . . then my shock as i regained focus with my glasses, Dany had cut my hair JUST LIKE HIS!!
I got the giggles, seriously, i walked off to the bakery laughing thinking, i'm a 35y.o. mother with a boy band hair do.  I told the baker & she said it looked nice.  Ok, brave enough to return home to my husband, again, he actually likes it, so i'll keep it this way for Summer.  FYI my husband things boys in boy bands look like girls anyway!!
Happy haircuts everyone, i know Retro Mummy is off on Saturday to the salon, she loves her hairdresser & gets a great do.  It's that time of year - check out my son's new trim.  I had put off his haircut for weeks, so last night i just said to my husband "shave it off, it's Summer, it makes swimming easier, it will grow back" & he did.
maybe he'll grow up to look like Jensen Ackles
More personal grooming on Thursday when i get a facial & my eye brows done, wish me luck!!  I made an appointment for that!!  Love Posie

A great post Miss Posie! Too funny. I love your new do (I haven't really seen a pic of you before so it is nice to put a face to the 'name'). I will think of you next time I catch a boy band on MTV!

Aahh, you make me laugh..! :o)
I have this 'mantra' about hairdressers, bearing in mind that in a different life that's what I did to pay the bills..!! I always reckon it's only hair and it will grow back and in the case of most of us quite quickly, then it'll be time to run the guantlet again with another maniac wielding scissors.....

Nice to see a pic of you, now I know what you look like. :)
I think it's a cute, easy to do hairstyle and it suits you so YAY!
And awesome about some pampering ... I need a haircut & eyebrow wax sometime soon too...

Wash your mouth out Posie - you do not look tired a-n-d the fringe does suit you... Be wary about the eyebrows. I came home with 2 Nike ticks once and laugh hysterically I did. Strangely at the end of it, my eyebrowslooked exactly like the beauticians! Should have paid more attention in the beginning. now i show a photo and say 'I do NOT want to look like this'. True. Good luck...

I like it!! I totally understand your frustration though, I never have luck with hairdressers, so I grew it out. I have a full fringe which I trim myself. The big boy likes his a little long but it only ever looks good when its due for a cut & they always have him coming out with a girly bob, so I take to that myself too adding a few very uneven layers, but at least a little less like the daughter I never had. The middle guy has the best hairdresser, she's the only one I take him to & always does a beautiful job, but can never do the rest of us as well, argh! Needless to say I take to the little guy with a pair of clippers a couple of time a year, easy & he has the head for it...

It could have been so much worse, you could have gone through all the frustrations and then ended up with a bad haircut. It really looks nice! x

You look great! I do know how you feel though - my last hair cut was awful (unlike yours) and though I desperately need another one, with my brother's wedding this weekend I am way to scared to get a cut this week. I know I will be in the big family photos and I don't want to have to take permanent marker to all of them! Having said that, I have booked myself in for a spray tan in an attempt to look a little leaner and fitter, and that has the potential to go terribly wrong....

As you say, when you have straight thick hair it is hard to mess it up - luckily! I also refuse to pay a lot for haircuts - the funniest are the salons that ask "would you like a junior stylist, senior stylist, or hairdresser?" Huh????

It looks great! I have no hairdesser attachment either. My sister cut it for me last time and she's not a hairdresser. Good luck with the eyebrows!

Very funny indeed! I have straight thick hair too, described once as a great shaving brush when in a pony tail! I dread seeing what new hairdressers will come up with as I too do not want to pay a fortune. As said by other, its hair it will grow back and then we can repeat the experience all over again!

I quite like the new do. I wouldn't have said boy band hair cut at all. Just gone short myself for the first time in ages and I'm loving it. Looking forward to seeing Corrie's too.

I like it and I must be out of th loop with what boy bands look like:) hehe

I get attached to hairdressers - I know that I shouldnt - but I have THICK hair and left unloved (by me) it looks a real treat:)
Oh and the greys are coming thick and strong:)

It's very funky! I like the fringe, I think you look good. I am about to let my sister who is an apprentice hairdresser and is just learning to cut, cut my hair. I want something funky but different. Hope it looks as nice as yours. Was just thinking, would love to see a little more blond in your hair, have you ever tried that sun in hair lightener? Just a few streaks, not the whole lot.

Hysterical! But I LOVE your boy band haircut!!!! x

PS - I have looooong curly redhead hair and I always say that I don't need to go anywhere special either. I guess if I wanted one of those smick highlighty do's that make me look 'groomed' I might need to. Shudder. x
