come walk with me & my action puppy

 Greetings all,
One my favourite things to do each day is take my action puppy for a walk, run, jump, climb, sniff & gallop.
Meet Khan, our much loved 3.5 year old German Shepherd.
Sometimes it's just a trip around the block . . .
 other times a long bush walk . . .
we look right & we look left . . .

then cross over to the reserve to spy on kangaroos.
I keep him on a lead as there are rabbit baits & he's prone to chase birds & butterflies!!
Yesterday we took Khan for a big walk around Lake Burley Griffen . . .
he is so good with other dogs (as in the non lunging/ barking/ attacking kind of good) & he's a hit with mums with prams!!  So many families say they don't have a dog, so we make time to stop & let their children have a good look at our huge puppy.  I have always taught our children to NEVER pat anyone else's dog, you just don't know them & i never encourage small children to pat our Khan, it's just not worth the risk, anything can frighten a child or startle a dog to react unpredictably, including sticky fingers which might get chomped on.
Big dogs don't always get a good wrap (MANY for good viscious reasons) but our children have not had a minute of their lives without a German Shepherd in it, we have had beautiful experiences, raised them with love & control.  We never put our children in danger (they were never left alone or unsupervised) but we do put a lot of trust in our puppy.  When our children get heavy enough, they can start taking him to the park with them, right now he can pull all of them over, he's just too strong.
Then he's back home on his heated sheepskin bed (inside at night in Winter) after a satisfying day out.  Best way to exercise, fresh air, happy quiet puppy at home & friendly way to meet your neighbours.  Love Posie

I am so not a dog person, but I would love to have one just to take for a walk... perhaps I should market myself out to walk other people's dogs??? x

I LOVE dogs! We grew up with a golden labrador by our sides every minute and I'm gagging for the time when I've got a backyard so I can get one for our little family! A dog's companionship and loyalty is second to none - LOVE them. And Khan looks great - I never much was one for German Shepherd's but I've really grown to love them! Thanks for the stroll xx

Khan is beautiful. Our children have had 2 very precious dogs in their live, one who passed away 2 years ago. They still talk about him constantly. The other is now 12 and is one of the kids, he even sleeps in their bedroom.

The best dog we EVER had was a german shepherd called Sophie. When she got put down, we were all hysterical. We still talk about her. x

My brother breeds these beautiful dogs, I remember when my kids were little them riding on one of his dogs backs. Your Khan looks like he enjoys his walks around the lake.
Our 14 year old blue cattle dog died last year, I still miss the walks.

He's a gorgeous dog Posie. One of my best friends has a German Shepherd and he is a dearly loved family member. I am wary of dogs (I was badly bitten as a kid) but for some reason I always feel perfectly safe round him. Love that he's the one who walks your kids to the park!

I love big dogs. We have a ridgeback/rotti called Odin and he is a beautiful big old boy. He would be about 11 now and we have had him since he was 9 months old and a giveaway.

He is so gentle with Cohen, but so protective of him too. Even when Cohen's uncle chases Cohen around the back yard. Odin will always stay between Cohen and Chris, or gently put his mouth on Chris's hand to tell him when to stop.

He's a great guard dog too, but he is push over when it comes to the cat. Seth is a big black old cat, a little older than Odin and has always been the boss! :)

I used to have a german shepherd named Myszka and she was a treasure so I can understand your feelings for Khan. If only everyone was as responsible with their dogs (all sizes and breeds) there would be far less problems, problems which are usually caused by the owners rather than the dogs. Dogs can enrich our lives so much! happy walking!

Jennie, I will be in Canberra tomorrow (hope to get to Handmade) and was wondering if you still have the teapot fabric, from Natalie Power, aka the tea pot lady.

Your little puppy is a rather big dog, which I would have a lot of respect for! I am not really a dog person I am afraid...as a friend of mine said - I can't actually interpret then. Never the less he is beautiful!

If Luke were allowed inside he'd be reading over my shoulder and saying "hmmfph! heated sheepskin indeeed!" - as it is he's sleeping very contentedly just outside my office window pushing out doggy Z's.

I love dogs and I love yours too. Why are German Shepherds so photogenic? So noble. The second I get my camera out the Whippet tries to lick the lens.

ps I was glad to see you had such a great Fathers Day with your lovely man in town xx

Our girls just adore having Molly, especially the big girl she loves her and has cuddles with her all the time. They really are a lovely addition to have in the family and they are great company too when the girls are at school. What a lovely friend you have there. xo

Khan is one lucky dog to have such a great family and warm sheepskin bed. It is so much better going walking with a dog and the best reason for getting up and out of the house for a break. I love my time outside with the animals and our crazy dog. Lupi will be wanting the heated bed if she finds out about them. My eldest son always turns to the dog for attention and she never fails him, always there wagging her tail for him.

SOunds like Kahn is a lovely dog. Our dogs are of the antisocial kind - we can't trust them with other dogs. It is really sad because they miss out on so many excursions because of it.

Kahn is a very handsome dog! Friends of ours always have German Shepards. Once when I slipped while getting into their dam for a swim, Fritz thought I was in trouble and swam in after me and pulled me out. He was the best of the bunch and is sadly missed.

Oh I love him! Mum and Dad have had German Shepherds ever since they were first married (35 years!) and their latest is just the sweetest thing - even with my kids :-)

He is gorgeous (I have to admit he's why I stumbled across your blog this morning!) We have to GSD's and can't imagine having any other breed. Our two are half sisters but look quite different (Nigella is long haired) and are very different temprament wise. Nigella is so calm & laid back, Claudia is very affectionate but also more nervous with strangers. We got her last year from our favourite breeder, but she was 4 months old, so we missed a crucial window of socialisation, but we're getting there! Can't wait to read more of your blog.
