Crocodylus Park, Berrimah NT

. . . why you never smile at a crocodile . . .Want to know how families spend their school holidays in the Crocodile mad Northern Territory?? Visiting crocodile farms of course & I can assure you, Crocodylus is the BEST!! Not only do you get a very informative tour guide with fascinating information plus a dose of comedy (like "don't run in a zig zag if a crocodile is chasing you as he'll run straight", & to determine the gender of the crocodile, it's temperature dependent, i.e. 30C incubation to make females, 32C to make males). Oh, at the end of the tour, everyone is invited to hold a crocodile for photo opportunties. I'm almost embarrassed to say the first 4 children in the queue where all my children, Darwin born & bred. So I share with you some photos of the park, which now includes lions, tigers, leopards, kangeroos, emus, lizards, turtles, dingoes & far too many monkeys for my liking. They have lots of massive crocodiles which they have rescued, so many are missing limbs - not sure about the people who caught them!! So enjoy the snaps, excuse the pun . . . first up, this is a young female crocodile sunbaking . . .
a group of young males sunbaking (below)
a small male in the breeding pensa big male in the breeding pensour children with their Sydney cousin, looking at monkeyssorry, I just don't like monkeys, this one is looking at me like it wants to scratch my eyes out
kangaroos munching American alligater pool "no swimming"our Roar with a new friend, a leopard kitten named Chloe
turtles, really big sea turtles

it's not an emu, they wouldn't pose, so here is an ostrich, he looks wiseok, so I took 70 photos of crocodiles, I like the claws on this one

a crocodile trap, as seen in Darwin harbour & various creeks around the top end

. . . on a final note, those aren't logs, look closely at the banks . . . Please show these to your children too, for a taste of what life is like in the Territory. It adds a little adventure to a day in the life of a crafty designer mum. Enjoy, love Jennie

Oh what a great day you all had - what better thing to do thn go and check out croc's - Can you believe that we NEVER went to Crocodylus - I know a little sad isnt it (and we were in Darwin for two years) But we did go out to Territory Wildlife Park. Have you been to the Crocodile Farm on the highway out of town - worth a look at if you can get thee (they have lots of little one (it is where they breed them up to make into bags - maybe a new range taht Posie could get into=))
What else are you going to do over your four weeks of holidays! And I agree with you - Emus are not very photogenic are they...

Hi there thanks for popping over to France! Used to live in Queensland and husband grew up in PNG so know all about dreaded antipodean wildlife!!!

Its probably the mozzies I hated most that and the snakes, I remember going walking int he bush and stamping big steps very loudly to keep the blighters away!!!

Love the photos!! My husband and I had a holiday in Darwin about 4 years ago and absolutely loved it!! I hope we get the chance to come back one day!
Whilst we were there, we went on a day trip on a small boat (I think there were 8 of us including the guide) and saw all the crocs and other wildlife - it was the highlight of our stay!!
Thank you for your comments on my blog.

That ostrich does look wise, but also a little tired of life, somehow.

What an interesting post -- thanks for sharing all of your pictures. I hope you at least like the cute little stuffed monkeys! ;-) I found you via your signup for Jade's PIF -- you lucky girl -- she's a sweetie! I'm looking forward to seeing lots more of your blog.

Hi Jennie,
Great croc photos-they are such fascinating creatures. Thank you so much for leaving a great comment on my new blog. And, welcome to you too! Had a look at all the things you are doing and am exhausted just looking at them! You are very talented and inspiring. My school holidays are almost over but I have such a lovely class that it is relatively painless going back-though I do miss my ME time! Glad to be in touch. Kind Regards

Thanks for the comment, yes those short shorts are cool. My daughter now wears some that are very similar!
My sister has lived in Darwin for over 10 years, but I have only visited once in 1999. Very slack I know. But we did visit Crocodylus Park, the beach markets, Nightcliff markets and beautiful swimming holes.

What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
